The purpose of Global Accessibility Awareness is to increase awareness of access to digital resources, awareness of the significant amount of people with disabilities and impairments, and awareness of the way we can all include those people in the digital world.

 

April is Autism Awareness Month and Auditory Processing Awareness Month

By Jayne M. Wesler, Esq. Why are these two conditions highlighted together?   Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder often have Auditory Processing Disorder as well. In fact, up to 80% of children with Autism also process sound in irregular ways. Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD, is a neurodevelopmental disorder which is characterized by impairments in social communication, cognition, and in restricted and repetitive behaviors. Auditory Processing Disorder, also known as Central Auditory Processing Disorder or CAPD, is a neurologic condition characterized by difficulties in processing sound. Report: Waiting Lists For Medicaid Waivers Up, Competitive Employment Down

Source: Disability Scoop -Wide geographical disparities exist when it comes to opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live and work in their communities, according to a new report that ranks states. The Case for Inclusion 2019 report released this week by United Cerebral Palsy and the ANCOR Foundation examines how well state programs — particularly Medicaid — are meeting the needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The report evaluated how states are promoting independence, including by avoiding placement in institutions.
